Transcultural Trauma(-Focused) Education

Professional staff often encounter people who have experienced or survived traumatic events and/or who are still suffering from the consequences of trauma in many areas of social, pedagogy and educational work. Experiences which are deemed to be extreme can lead to severe stress and noticeable behaviour patterns. Providing the effective psychosocial support for those people who have been affected by this, as well as dealing adequately with the associated challenges, requires specific skills - particularly when this is associated with transcultural settings. The Master's study course Transcultural Trauma-Focused Education therefore imparts knowledge, findings and insights from the fields of psychology, education and social work.

The students

  • will be able to develop a multiple perspective in understanding trauma and its associated consequences in the context of migration and flight,
  • will be enabled to develop trauma-related, sensitive support and protection concepts,
  • are also able to relieve children, adolescents and adults by implementing culturally sensitive and resource-oriented stabilising interventions,
  • can independently recognise and counteract their own stress levels and additionally develop their professional attitude through supervision and self-reflection.
